I absolutely love working at the St. Regis, and Eugene and Rhea were a perfect fit for this glamorous, old world hotel. They have such a great sense of style, and they created a truly lovely wedding day full of elegant details. For starters, Rhea gave me not one, but two beautiful wedding gowns to photograph. And what is a second gown without a second pair of sparkly shoes? Wait till you see her choices!
Rhea is definitely a woman who knows how to make an entrance. Her procession through the wrought iron gates of the Astor Terrace left Eugene (and all the guests) stunned with admiration. I love the photos of his face when he sees her for the first time! Halfway through the reception, Rhea changed into her second gown and was announced (to huge appreciation) into the ballroom just before her dance with her father. The photos of their emotional father daughter dance are probably my favorites from the entire day--you absolutely have to see them, and you might need tissues.
During their ceremony, Eugene and Rhea celebrated their Filipino heritage with a traditional veil and cord ceremony as well as the giving and receiving of coins. The coin ceremony symbolizes a commitment to financially support each other and build a loving home together. While the groom traditionally gives the coins to the bride, these two each gave coins to one another. I love this symbolism for mutual respect and support.
It was a chilly and somewhat blustery fall day, but the wedding party braved the wind for some lovely sunset portraits at Lafayette Square, just north of the White House. We wrapped up outside with some twilight photos of the newlyweds enjoying their first quiet moments together. Of course, we had to get some fun photos too. Despite their stylish attire, Rhea and Eugene are total goofballs at heart.
My favorite part of any wedding is capturing the relationships and emotion that are central to the day, and I had so many great moments during this wedding. Eugene and Rhea are both very close to their parents, and they wove their families and friends into the day so seamlessly. I couldn't begin to include all the toasts in this blog post, but I heard so many wonderful things about them and their relationship. It was truly my pleasure to capture this wedding.
