Wondering who these hilarious people are and how this photo came together? Let's back up a little...
About two months ago, Vickie contacted me about doing some "surprise family portraits". Wait, how does that work? Don't people need to dress up for portraits? Well, the surprise was only for one person: Vickie's Mom. Mom was turning 75 in December, and all of her children and grandchildren were flying to Virginia to surprise her with a family reunion. Vickie wanted to capture the big moment when they revealed themselves and then take family portraits as a lasting gift for her Mom.
I was so excited about this idea from the beginning, and I love how everything turned out. We had a little difficulty with rain, travel schedules, and timing, but in the end everyone made it safely in time to surprise Mom/Grandma. And it was so worth it to see the look on her face when she found all her family waiting for her!
After a moment like that, it was pretty easy to keep everyone smiling for portraits. And then someone broke out fake mustaches for the whole group. And things got even better.
If you're looking for the perfect gift idea for your Mom, Dad, Grandpa, or Grandma, I don't think you'll find anything more touching than this one. We met at Frying Pan Park in Herndon, but there are tons of great places to stage a surprise portrait session--including your home or neighborhood.
Thanks again to Vickie for setting up this beautiful family portrait session!
